The time has finally come…my 21st birthday! As I’ve reached this milestone in my life, all I can think is one simple question: where has the time gone? It’s true what they say that time flies when you’re having fun. My 21 years here on Earth have been filled with incredible highs and inevitable lows, and I wanted to reflect on what I found to be what life’s all about… a little bit of a bittersweet lifestyle post, but something I want to remember as time continues to pass by 🙂

Evana
21. Focus on what you’re good at and what makes you happy and thrive at that. After all, nobody is perfect and nobody is asking you to be.
20. Emotions are only human and it’s important to know how to embrace them and how to act upon them. Being born a naturally sensitive person can be difficult at times, but it gets a little bit easier as you mature.
19. Hip hop can turn your mood from 0 to 100 real quick. It might be a phase, not really sure. It does the job and that’s all that really matters.
18. Don’t ever settle. However, don’t let anybody else tell you you’re settling if it’s something that you truly want to pursue.
17. Value your education, but don’t let it ruin you. Considering school has been almost all of my life, it’s all I really know. In just a short year, I’ll potentially be living in a different city surrounded by new faces. It’s important to value knowledge and growth, not the numbers and scores.
16. You are not the black sheep of the family. To this day I struggle with this, considering my siblings and cousins are all super humans. Everyone is special and unique in their own way.
15. Remember to call your loved ones and pursue acts of kindness each and every day. You never know what tomorrow holds. With that being said, be thankful each day to have the family that you do. They’re you’re rock.
14. Don’t ever cut your hair short again. Listen to your mother next time… sorry mom! Hey, it looks really cute on some people, but I’ll stick to the long locks for a while.
13. Stop dwelling on past mistakes. Everyone makes them, so it’s important to learn and grow from this. As for the future, never hold grudges and always keep an open, steady mind.
12. Be that friend anyone can talk to. You never truly know what someone is going through.
11. Drink ya water and wash your face before bed. You’ll be thankful when you spot your first wrinkle.
10. One Direction will always be your true first love and you can’t even deny it (Harry Styles, marry me please). And of course, a special shout out to the Fab 5! There’s nobody else I would rather go through that phase of my life with.
9.Everything happens for a reason. It’s important to be patient and accept the plan God has in store for you.
8. Keep those friends who help you be the best version of yourself and support you through all the good and bad. Finding those who relate to you is key. Shout out to my best friends who stuck with me through my obnoxious laugh, constant annoyance, weirdness, and endless love (you know who you are)!
7. Change is inevitable. Learn to embrace it. I’ve always dreaded change and probably always will. However, it brings about new opportunities, new friendships, and new lessons. These are all what make you the person you are today.
6. Stop apologizing for things you shouldn’t be sorry for. This is probably the hardest concept to grasp, especially being a people pleaser. It is important to stand your ground and remember your values.
5. Dance like nobody’s watching. There is a 100% chance people in fact are watching and while some may judge, you may also bring joy to many others. Forget the haters because somebody loves ya!
4. Live a life you can look back at and confidently say you wouldn’t change a thing. No matter the phase in your life, look back and remember that those were the good ole days, but the best is yet to come. Like Drake once said, “I’m here for a good time not a long time.”
3. Never rely on anyone else for your own happiness. You don’t need a boyfriend/girlfriend to define your happiness. When you’re ready, find someone who compliments you rather than completes you. Cut out toxic friends. Do what you need to do to live happy and free. Those who are true and loyal will stay close to your heart.
2. Never take a moment for granted. There will be moments in your life you wish would never end because it brings you that much happiness. Embrace your surroundings and be thankful each and every day to wake up alive and well.
- Just keep smiling, it’s what you’re good at.
