WELCOME TO MY HOME AWAY FROM HOME
And just like that, I’ve began my third year of college! Seriously, where is the time going?? It felt like yesterday I made my way to my shoe-box of a dorm room. On that note, we all know the feeling of back to school jitters, especially when leaving your childhood home. The excitement and complete vulnerability of the unknown lurks upon us. This is why it’s extra important to set up a space where you feel comfortable and is easy enough to decompress during any time of day. For me personally, staring at bare walls is potentially the worst thing about moving into a new room. I think I had a little too much fun putting together my room…to the point where I contemplated why I never considered choosing to pursue a career in interior design (is it too late to switch??). Take any inspiration you have from my room as I will do my best to link all my items or look a-likes below, but don’t forget to make it all about you and what makes you the happiest!
*Disclaimer: all furniture (nightstand, bed, dresser, and desk) came with my apartment along with the color of the walls.
SLEEP
For my bedding, I chose a white comforter since my bed takes up most of the room. I wanted to make it simple and make the room feel bigger than what it actually is. It also pairs perfectly with my colorful tapestry. These colors are the foundation for my room’s aesthetic, along with light brown.
I snagged this comforter for a great price during Nordstrom’s 2017 Anniversary sale; unfortunately, this item’s now unavailable. Here are some suggestions I have:
I picked up my tapestry on sale from Urban Outfitters the same time I bought my comforter. If placing next to your bed, find one that matches your comforter and theme! Here are some I found that are also super cute:
My blue decorative pillow is from Home Goods, which has literally all the pillows you could imagine!
This is a DIY I found on my Pinterest and was super easy to create! I bought an E-shaped cutout and my favorite flowers from Hobby Lobby and began glueing the flowers onto the cutout. DIYs are always fun, inexpensive, and quick to make; plus it’s always fun adding your personal touches onto decorations.
WORK
Having a work area you actually enjoy sitting at is pretty important when it comes to motivation. I wanted to keep it simple with a mellow aesthetic. This board was my idea of a center piece and everything else came together after that. Sunflowers are my favorite flowers so it only made sense to have them at my desk as well. As for all the print outs, I found some of my favorite clips from my Tumblr which I usually rotate out once in a while.
I found my pin board from Home Goods, which has the cheapest prices from the research I did online. However I found one similar here:
This mirror is something you won’t really realize you needed in your life until you have it…and then you come to terms that you can’t function without it. The bright light is key when applying makeup as well as the double sided mirror options: one normal and one to see all those wonderful pores. I bought mine from Costco!
Something felt missing on this wall so I added these cute little mock magazine covers. I bought these on the streets of New York City.
ESSENTIALS
These little accents make my dresser look cute but still hold the purpose of keeping all my necessities in order.
Flowers, vase and candle are from Hobby Lobby
Marble rotating tray is from Home Goods that I think is supposed to be used as a cheese platter but hey, it works!

The Little Dictionary of Fashion by Christian Dior is just a basic necessity for any girl
If you know me you know I love Vogue, so these were my basic necessities. My siblings bought me Vogue: The Covers for Christmas and it’s probably one of my favorite presents to this day (shoutout to them real quick!). Next, I have the special edition Vogue: Met Gala 2018 that I purchased at the Met Exhibit; they stop making each edition every year, so it’s fun to collect yearly issues to keep in remembrance! Finally, I purchased the fall issue which is basically the bible for fashion. Aside from my Vogue collection, my small jewelry box is from Home Goods.
A complete look at my dresser area with the addition of wall decor.
Letter Board is a simple but fun way to tie everything together, along with some memorable polaroids.
I found inspiration for this cart on Pinterest and knew I had to recreate it. It’s the best way to store your items but still make it look presentable. I added some books, movies, candles, nail polish, etc.
This is my newest addition to my room and I’m in love!! For only costing $50, I couldn’t help but make the impulse buy at Home Goods (if you don’t know by now, Home Goods is my ride or die). After searching the web, all mirrors that look even remotely close to this one were $150+. The best bet is to go to your local Home Goods if you’re looking for a mirror!
Let me know what you love about your room or any advice you have for mine!
